I love it when my city is alive

A city needs people. A city is happiest when its streets and parks are filled with people, music, art and life. My city is unfortunately often empty after five pm and I think my city is sad much of the time.

However, last Friday my city was alive. There was a night market in the park and the whole city was alive with people, laughter, music and the lovely smells of delicious food. As we were approaching the park we passed people departing with satisfied bellies and souls, smiles on their faces. The streets were filled with happy people and the park was packed with people, stalls of crafts and food and entertainers. The sun was setting and people were curled up together on the grass, listening to the music and eating a delicious meal, be it Spanish, French, Thai, Mexican, Argentinian or Indian.

Last Friday my city was happy.

Next Friday my city will be happy again. You should go this time.

Of learning to enjoy the small things in life

I work hard for my own happiness. As part of this I’ve learned to appreciate the small things in life, those small pockets in time when life differs a little bit from the normal routine. A moment of passion. A moment of pleasant surprise. A moment of laughter. A moment of rest. In a relationship these moment are love’s oxygen. Like deep breaths of fresh air they keep the relationship alive. Romance should not be saved for those special occasions, it’s a daily necessity.

I am lucky to have a boyfriend who appreciates these moments just as much as I do.

Sean went on a camping trip on Tuesday and was meant to come home Sunday. As I was arriving from work on Saturday, tired from a busy day at work, I heard a familiar voice coming from somewhere behind our overgrown garden.

‘Hey baby!’

A voice and a greeting I’d grown so used to suddenly make my heart race.

Today we bought a table and two chairs for our garden. While Sean set up the table with much love and care, I made lunch with an equal amount of care and love.

Then when he went to the gym I drew all over his parking spot. Good intentions, of course.

I love my job

I work at the new Waurn Ponds library and I really enjoy my work. Every day I get to talk to people about their favourite books, movies and music and help them find whatever they are looking for. It is very rewarding.

My team at work is fantastic. We are Team Awesome. I am Pocket Rocket. Today Troy the Invincible drew me a picture because I was feeling a bit flat and had lost my rocket.
